...ok...adding to the last post.
so, my sister had her baby shower the other day and while i had a great time, my aunts and uncles were bombarding me with questions pertaining to my own marriage-potential and future motherhood.
"when are you going to get married?"
"so, i bet you can't wait to have one of those running around, eh?"
"are you engaged yet?"
"do you think Mark will propose soon?"
"YOU'RE TOO OLD ALREADY!"
EEEEEEEEEK! head explodes or implodes, take your pick!
i cannot believe how people are so obsessed with marriage and babies. i honestly felt like shooting myself in the face. ugh. double ugh.

| Random Rant... |

i doubt anyone i know on here watches Korean dramas, but seriously, i just have to rant about a few things:
Firstly: what in the world is up with these ridiculous plots?
it's all the same: the girl can't pay for stuff, so she sells herself to this rich, handsome dude, who either a) falls in love with her, b) she falls in love with, or c) they fall in love with each other, but can't be together because he's rich and she's poor and yadda yadda yadda.
in most cases, storylines can include the following: kidnapping, murder, blackmail, amnesia, bankruptcy, loan sharks, mother-in-laws who "surprise" their children with arranged marriages to characters whom we, the audience, have never been introduced to before and who are therefore obviously obstacles for the two star-crossed lovers...and the list goes on. i mean, yes, melodramas and romantic comedies are fun, but the plotlines have to be realistic in some sense! it's called continuity! sheesh!
Secondly: this might be a cultural thing, but when the two main characters finally kiss, it's always a chaste, innocent kiss. Korean soaps kisses remind me of 1950s kisses where their lips just barely meet and stay there for one minute without moving, which is supposed to signify passion. this is always greatly disappointing to me.
after investing so much time and effort into these kdramas, i feel as though i'm not getting what i deserve - there is no satisfaction with watching two grown people in love give each other a quick peck on the lips after all the blackmailing, kidnapping and amnesia that happens during the course of their time together. it's just not realistic!
now, maybe it's because i'm used to dramatic, climactic Hollywood-type kisses, but everytime i see these cutesy, chaste kisses in Kdramas, i can't help but think "JUST KISS THE SHIT OUT OF EACH OTHER ALREADY! YOU'VE WAITED THIS LONG! MOVE YOUR EFFING LIPS!" sheesh!
( Spoiler for Boys Before Flowers, if you watch this, which i'm sure you don't )
Thirdly: with number one and number two already written, why the hell do i keep watching these? oh, yes, i remember...because they're addicting as hell and i love Koreans.
....sheesh.

holy shit. i am so in love with this Korean actor, who is ridiculously good-looking. i mean, seriously. i am usually not attracted to Asian men, especially extremely Asian men. (no offense, some are good looking, but too immersed in Asian culture. i am Asian too, but having grown up in North America, i am more in-tune with my western culture.) anyway, where was i? oh yes, Daniel Henney. this man is extremely handsome and Asian-American. yeesh. i am in love!

shameless plug, Daniel will be in the next X-Men Origins movie. in a hot, tie-and-suspenders outfit. hot.
on another note, i am just not into teaching today. i'm sitting in the office listening to the receptionists bitch about another receptionist. sheesh! high-school really makes everyone else high-schoolers.

ok, that's not real Spanish, but i really wanted a good title to show how disappointed i am at this very instant.
as i was marking my students' newspaper project, i came across this incredibly written one. and by "incredibly written" i mean, like incredibly not written by them, but rather by a university professor. so i stealthily googled up a random phrase from their project and, 'lo and behold, there it was: the exact same article online.
so, i am mucho disappointed right now and i know i shouldn't be, because kids are like that; they are pressured to do well, they are too lazy to actually do anything, or they don't quite understand the meaning of plagiarism. however, i can't help but feel super sad right now. this is such a tragic event for me. she's such a nice student too and she was so incredibly proud of her work that she talked about it with such enthusiasm. i thought i was making an impact on her. *sigh* this is going to be tough.

so after a year of making fun of my mother for being addicted to kdramas, i too have become a kdrama-whore!
i recently finished watching My Name is Kim Sam Soon and My Girl. i've always been a hopeless romantic and kdramas always get the ratio of melodrama, comedy and romance just right. sigh not only that, but i have now developed new crushes on Daniel Henney and Lee Dong Wook.
you know something is wrong when you get lost in TV series.
EDIT: ...ok, i'm super obsessed with Korean soap operas! i just started watching Goong and i'm hooked! ARG!

Ted Talks: Ken Robinson "Do Schools Kill Creativity?"
this is one of the most inspirational, educational presentations i have ever watched. as someone who is complete rubbish at academics, this really speaks to me, especially since i'll be teaching future generations to come (well, hopefully anyway).
also, i really want Sims 2 for my Macbook.

i just realized that i completely forgot about my online journal. and there's nothing better than a good ol' post about boys to bring journals back to life. so, here we go...
top 5 older (40+) shaggable celebrity men: 1. Colin Firth 2. Greg Kinnear 3. Johnny Depp 4. George Clooney 5. Robert Downey Jr.
top 5 sexy male (under 40) celebs: 1. James McAvoy 2. Christian Bale 3. Ron Livingston 4. Justin Timberlake 5. James Marsden
ok, now i've got to get back to paying attention in class.
anyone care to add to the list?
